Phase and Earth fault indicator

In modern distribution networks, reliable and fast fault detection is essential to ensure uninterrupted power supply. The F-Sense earth fault and short circuit indicator offers a reliable solution tailored to the needs of network operators.

Equipped with the Fault Position Indicator (FPI) function, the F-Sense accurately detects phase faults and earth faults in medium voltage cable networks. Using four external current sensors, it provides comprehensive coverage in various network configurations.

The earth fault and short circuit indicator is designed for medium voltage distribution cable systems from 6 to 40.5 kV, nominal frequency 50 Hz / 60 Hz. The main advantage of the F-Sense is its simplicity and efficiency. Its intuitive interface provides network operators with quick fault identification capabilities, facilitating timely intervention to minimize downtime.

The F-Sense series earth fault and short circuit indicators have a liquid crystal display (LCD) and an LED for fault indication and for displaying the current network current of each phase. The highly flexible settings of the indicator can be fully configured via the LCD display.

The connections between the short-circuit sensors and, respectively, the earth fault sensor with display are made via a cable. All sensors must only be installed on shielded cables. The sensors are separable and can be retrofitted to the cable.

The F-Sense series short-circuit and earth fault indicators are equipped with two relays for separate remote indication of earth faults and short circuits. The remote contacts are changeover contacts (NO+NC) for maximum flexibility.

The F-Sense phase fault and earth fault indicator is also equipped with a serial interface. Via the Modbus protocol, the status of the indicator can be read, as well as all indicator settings can be read and changed. In addition, the network maintenance current can be read remotely. The serial interface can be configured for low current consumption. Thus, the F-Sense type indicators can be used without an external power supply. Depending on the version, the F-Sense type earth fault and short circuit indicator consists of:

  • One display unit for displaying earth faults and short circuits
  • Three current sensors of the type for detecting short circuits
  • One sensor of the type for detecting earth faults
  • External signal lamp.
